Junctional adhesion molecule-A (JAM-A) in gynecological cancers: Current state of knowledge

نویسندگان

چکیده

Junctional adhesion molecule-A (JAM-A), also known as the F11 receptor (F11R), is one of tight junction components. JAM-A a transmembrane glycoprotein that regulates many cellular processes, i.e., angiogenesis, leukocyte transendothelial migration, intercellular permeability, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, and platelet activation. Of note, it involved in pathogenesis various cancer types, including gynecological cancers. Only few studies are available about this type. Observed aberrant expression cancers correlates with poor patient prognosis. To best our knowledge, conflicting roles types suggest its involvement complex tumor-type specific. The underlying molecular mechanisms pathways responsible for functions were not fully elucidated need to be identified. Finding appropriate novel biomarkers may reduce observed very high mortality rates could contribute personalized treatment development. main aim present viewpoint article report current knowledge participation malignancies.

Junctional adhesion molecule-2 (JAM-2) promotes lymphocyte transendothelial migration.

The molecular mechanisms underlying lymphocyte extravasation remain poorly characterized. We have recently identified junctional adhesion molecule-2 (JAM-2), and have shown that antibodies to JAM-2 stain high endothelial venules (HEVs) within lymph nodes and Peyer patches of adult mice. Here we show that mouse lymphocytes migrate in greater numbers across monolayers of endothelioma cells transf...

Junctional adhesion molecule (JAM) binds to PAR-3

At tight junctions (TJs), claudins with four transmembrane domains are incorporated into TJ strands. Junctional adhesion molecule (JAM), which belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily, is also localized at TJs, but it remains unclear how JAM is integrated into TJs. Immunoreplica electron microscopy revealed that JAM showed an intimate spatial relationship with TJ strands in epithelial cells. I...

Functions of novel Junctional Adhesion Molecule-A (JAM-A) inhibitor in breast cancer cells

Background Each year breast cancer is diagnosed in approximately 1 million women worldwide [1]. Our lab has previously linked Junctional Adhesion Molecule A (JAM-A) gene and protein over-expression in breast tumours with an increased risk of metastasis [2,3]. JAM-A loss or inhibition has also been shown to inhibit cell migration and invasion [2], while increasing apoptosis possibly as a result ...

Elevated plasma level of soluble F11 receptor/junctional adhesion molecule-A (F11R/JAM-A) in hypertension.

BACKGROUND The F11 receptor (F11R, also known as junctional adhesion molecule A (JAM-A)) plays a role in the development of hypertension in rat. Genetic variants in the human F11R gene were demonstrated to influence systolic blood pressure. In the present study, we investigated the relationship between F11R and hypertension by examining the levels of a circulating soluble form of F11R (sF11R) i...

DEVELOPMENTAL EXPRESSION PATTERN OF JUNCTIONAL ADHESION MOLECULE-A (JAM-A) By

Cell adhesion molecules of the Ig superfamily play an important role in embryonic development. It has recently been shown that JAM-A, a member of this family expressed at endothelial and epithelial tight junctions, is involved in platelet activation, leukocyte transmigration, and angiogenesis. Here I determine the expression pattern of the JAM-A gene during embryogenesis using transgenic mice e...
